After the Fall
Echoes From The Abyss
After the Fall: Echoes From the Abyss
After the Fall represents my first foray into a futurist science fiction since high school. I began writing this story earlier this year (2023) as an assignment for a course on writing speculative fiction. It was intended to function as a short story, but also as a starting point for a future novel. It’s a newer idea, but really has its roots in a novella that I wrote back in ninth or tenth grade called Reinforcements. That story had its origins in the Wing Commander series of video games (Wing Commander 2 to be exact), and involved a young boy named Emory who was tagging along with his father on a mission to a distant world, where he would meet an alien race and actually lead them in a revolution against their human overlords. I would point out this was years before Avatar, so I still hold that I did it first, lol. After the Fall is about a man named Oren, a former Ranger turned gunslinger on the distant planet of Cibola, who rescues a boy named Emory from a band of space brigands. This story won’t have an alien race of cat-people, but I think Wing Commander fans will enjoy it all the same!
Echoes from the Abyss is my second writing priority, with a strong plot outline completed as well as the first (few) chapters. I’ve set the story aside for now while I continue to work on The Nova Paradox, but once I’ve finished that project around March of next year, I plan to jump into this first book in the After the Fall series with both feet. I’m hopeful that I will be able to complete the manuscript by sometime late in 2024 to be released sometime in 2025.
Again, I’ll be looking for early readers who are willing to give me their honest constructive criticism on the story. If you’d be interested in helping me as an “early reader” just send me a note via my contact page.
