The Nova Paradox

THE NOVA PARADOX

The Nova Paradox kind of grew out of a short story I wrote as part of a creative writing class a few years ago.  The premise was simple — what happens when technology reaches the point where people begin to upload their consciousness to the cloud?  I have to give credit to Ray Kerzweil for the idea, though in this story, it doesn’t lead to the kind of utopian circumstances he describes.  In the original story, a digital architect from the “real world” is interviewed by a magazine reporter who asks him some fairly pointed questions about how the technology works.  The questions lead him to question what he’s been told about the virtual world that he is helping to build for the virtual persons (called VPs or “veeps”).

Fast forward a couple of years, and the story has taken on a new life of its own, with new characters, lots of intrigue, and some fairly heavy philosophical questions.  The main character went from a 30-something “architect”, to a young intern at NovaTech.  I forsee this being a 3-book series, with the titles being The Nova Paradox: Emergence, The Nova Paradox: Echoes, and The Nova Paradox: Evolution.

Emergence is “number one” on the list of writing priorities right now, with things well underway, and a fairly solid outline finished.  I’m hoping that I can finish the first manuscript over the next few months, with a completion date of around March of 2024.  I’ll be looking for some early readers — folks interested in reading that rough manuscript (rife with the errors it may contain) — and giving me their honest (and constructive) opinions on what works and what doesn’t.  If you’re interested in becoming an “early reader” just send me a note via my contact page.  Your feedback would be invaluable.
